Position Purpose:
To co-ordinate the provision of Occupational Therapy (OT) services, for people with brain injury within the interdisciplinary service that is Rewire, providing leadership, support and management of the Occupational Therapy team.
To develop ways Occupational Therapy services meet the needs of the Brain Injury community through application of applicable research, innovation and capacity building amongst staff team.
To collaborate with other discipline leads for best practice in interdisciplinary service delivery, quality service development and organisational achievement of purpose.

Key Challenges:
Working as part of Brain Injury SA (BISA) management team whilst evolving Occupational Therapy service provision within resources available.
Meeting the management needs of Occupational Therapy staff and students whilst actively contributing to interdisciplinary service provision to the brain injury community.
Position Summary
Brain Injury SA delivers an interdisciplinary approach to its service provision in assisting people with acquired brain injury achieve their goals and maximise their well-being and independence, with a particular focus on assisting participants address needs for successful community living.
Working with a number of stakeholders including families, carers and a variety of funding bodies, this role provides leadership to Occupational Therapy team as well as direct service delivery as a senior Occupational Therapist, with a particular focus on more complex and demanding case work.
The role includes work allocation, supervision and facilitation of professional development amongst the Occupational Therapy team, task delegation and work instruction to Allied Health Assistants and Support works and the supervision of Occupational Therapy students on placement. The role carries a responsibility for liaison with other Discipline Leads on needs of people referred to BISA and the best utilisation of Occupational Therapy expertise. As a member of the general management team, the role also has input into service development, organisational policy and planning, with a particular emphasis on the needs of the Occupational Therapy team and Occupational Therapy service delivery.
This position holds delegated pairing with the Manager – Allied Health Operations. This means that simultaneous leave is restricted with the holder of the paired position.
Position Requirements
Key Result Area 1: Discipline Leadership – Occupational Therapists
Objectives
- To lead and grow appropriate use of Occupational Therapy within the interdisciplinary team of BISA.
- To work with other Discipline Leads on service planning for individual participants to maximise the benefit and utilisation of resources available.
- To advise the Manager – Allied Health Operations on resource needs in relation to Occupational Therapy staff including capacity, skill development and recruitment needs.
- To support the liaison with external stakeholders on the application of Occupational Therapy skills in service delivery opportunities.
Position holder is successful when:
- The existing OT capacity is fully utilised with the potential for increased positions.
- Rewire team members make appropriate use of OT expertise in service planning and implementation.
- Attendance at Discipline Lead meetings and service planning activities.
- The organisation supports the professional development of OTs and grows the scope of utilisation of their skills in service provision.
- Productive contribution is made to stakeholder liaison on behalf of the Occupational Therapy team, supporting growth in service provision and market share by BISA.
Key Result Area 2: Service Quality and Development
Objectives
- To establish and oversee standards of practice upheld in delivery of services for Occupational Therapy within BISA, providing supervision and auditing of service quality.
- In conjunction with the OT team, explore and evaluate new approaches to benefit the treatment and management of brain injury.
- To advise management on policy and procedure needs specific to the work of Occupational Therapists , assisting in the creation of such policies and procedures when required.
- To contribute to the overall development of policy and procedure to support the work of the Rewire teams.
- To provide professional supervision and support to the team of Occupational Therapists at BISA and facilitate their collaboration and contribution to the interdisciplinary team work of Rewire.

- BISA grows its provision of services to support successful community living in ways that meet its strategic objectives and the needs of people with acquired brain injury.
- A quality service is provided with BISA by Occupational Therapists and continuously improved.
- Policies and procedures support best practice by Occupational Therapists.
- Organisational policy and procedure considers any particular needs of services provided by Occupational Therapists.
- Occupational Therapists employed by BISA are well supported in their professional development and have positive experience of team work, as a discipline team and as part of Rewire team.
Key Result Area 3: Service Delivery
Objectives
- Provide direct Occupational Therapy services with a particular focus on more complexity of need to a KPI of 20 billable hours per week to 37.5 hour week of employment.
- To allocate, and where required, direct work requiring input by the Occupational Therapy team members.
- To manage the capacity of and demand for the Occupational Therapy team services with appropriate prioritisation and innovation in use of resources.
Position holder is successful when:
- BISA is able to provide an appropriate and sustainable Occupational Therapy services when required for existing or potential participants of BISA.
- BISA grows its provision of services in ways that meet its strategic objectives and the needs of people with acquired brain injury.
- Demand for Occupational Therapy services can be consistently me.
Key Result Area 4: Teamwork and Liaison
Objectives
- Occupational Therapy services are integrated in the overall service planning for an individual, and their provision supports the overall goals set by the client and their funding body for their program with BISA.
- The position holder works as part of the general management team in service planning and development, contributing accurate and timely reporting and discipline perspective to discussion and decision making.
- Good inter team communication and liaison is evident to the client and external stakeholders including funding bodies.
Position holder is successful when:
- The position holder works with and is integrated into the BISA staff team for effective service provision and a co-ordinated experience by clients.
- Communication and effective reporting across the general management team supports effective and well co-ordinated service delivery to clients.
- The interdisciplinary team works with excellent communication and collaboration.

Qualifications/Registrations/Experience

- AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist
