$90,000 – $109,999 (Full Time Equivalent)

Team Leader


Location:

Central: 70 Light Square, Adelaide. Some flexibility in work location may be required through negotiation.


Position Purpose:

To provide leadership and specialist clinical expertise in the delivery of Occupational Therapy Services ensuring the development and delivery of high quality service provision that meet the needs of the clients of Brain Injury SA (BISA).


Key Result Areas:

Advanced Clinical Service Provision, Interdisciplinary Practice and Teamwork, Staff and Student Supervision, Quality and Safety.


Key Challenges:

Maintaining a complex caseload and at least 4 billable hours per working day.

Position Summary

Working as part of multidisciplinary team focussed on the needs of participants with acquired brain injury, the Senior Occupational Therapist is responsible for the provision and management of specialised, high quality Occupational Therapy services delivered within Brain Injury SA.

Duties include:

  • Managing and evaluating best practice
  • Maintaining high level clinical standards in supervision of staff and students
  • Implementing innovative clinical practices

The incumbent also assists the Team Leader in:

  • Managing human and physical resources required to meet service demand
  • Developing and documenting systems to support quality and clinical standards
  • Providing advice and consultancy to service funders, management and professional networks
  • Providing clinical and professional leadership to Occupational Therapists.

This position holds delegated pairing with Occupational Therapy Lead.

Position Requirements

Key Result Area 1: Advanced Clinical Service Delivery

Objectives


Providing advanced clinical skills to participants and maintaining currency of knowledge in relevant specialist areas of Occupational Therapy.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Services provided are client centred, founded in evidence or best practice and undertake a goal orientated approach.
  • Interdisciplinary team has access to advanced and current clinical knowledge in specialist area to deliver best practice.
  • In collaboration with the Discipline Lead – Occupational Therapy, OT practice innovates to address identified needs and opportunities for further contribution to achievement of organisational purpose.

Co-ordinating Occupational Therapy service provision for hubs.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Occupational Therapy workloads including work allocation, and resource planning are effectively managed for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Close collaboration occurs with the hub Team Leader, to ensure participant needs can be accommodated and good interdisciplinary service planning occurs.

Maintaining professional standards and meet organisational requirements in all reporting, recording and administrative practices.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Participant service records are maintained to a professional standard of completeness and accuracy.
  • Staff supervised are supported to achieve required standards in all reporting and administrative practices.

Key Result Area 2: Interdisciplinary Practice and Teamwork

Objectives


Working for excellence in interdisciplinary practice.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Brain Injury SA staff have access to specialist Occupational Therapy advice and service information as required.
  • Therapeutic disciplines work collaboratively to identify and best address the needs of participants, enhance service delivery outcomes and influence service development
  • Consultancy is available as needed to members of the Rewire team and Senior Management team in clinical discipline specific matters.

Team Participation

Position holder is successful when:

  • The hub Team Leader is supported in providing leadership and achieving best practice through excellence in collaboration and communication.
  • Opportunities to participate in and contribute to the broader staff team and work of Brain Injury SA are undertaken positively and constructively.

Key Result Area 3: Staff and Student Supervision

Objectives


Providing leadership and mentorship to junior Occupational Therapy staff.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Junior OT staff and Allied Health Assistants enjoy a work environment that supports their learning and development with a particular focus on the building of specialist expertise in the management and treatment of brain injury.
  • Supervised staff are enabled to identify educational and development needs through regular feedback supported by annual performance reviews.
  • Staff personal and professional development and that of the discipline is facilitated through educational programs and access to workshops, courses and conferences in line with organisational policy and budget capacity.

Providing clinical education to Occupational Therapy students.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Occupational Therapy students experience a well-structured, inspiring and supported opportunity tailored to their learning and developmental needs.
  • Through role modelling, students develop a culture of professionalism, accountability and reflective practice.
  • Personal and professional development of staff and the discipline is facilitated through educational programs and access to workshops, courses and conferences.
  • Relevant communication is maintained with supervising universities, supporting development of clinical knowledge and interest in specialist employment in the area of brain injury amongst students.

Key Result Area 4: Quality and Safety

Objectives


Developing and appropriately reviewing policies and procedures specific to Occupational Therapy service provision.

Position holder is successful when:

  • National Standards for Disability Services are achieved and meet or exceed auditing requirements.
  • Policies and procedures are available as required to support delivery of quality and safe Occupational Therapy practice to participants with Brain Injury SA.
  • Policies and procedures are implemented and periodically audited for quality purposes.

Ensuring compliance with applicable legal and professional standards, with a particular focus in the practice of Occupational Therapy.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Clinical standards and ethical practice is maintained in all Occupational Therapy service provision.
  • Supervised staff work safely in their practice seeking support and guidance appropriately.

Adhere to and contribute to development of work health and safety monitoring and reporting.

Position holder is successful when:

  • Organisational work health, safety and injury management (WHS&IM) policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Supervised staff, students and volunteers are provided with access to the necessary information, instruction, training and supervision to effectively and safely carry out their work.

  • Positively and constructively represent BISA to external contacts at all opportunities
  • Behaves in a way that contributes to a workplace that is free of discrimination, harassment and bullying behaviour at all times

  • Helps ensure the health, safety and welfare of self and others working in the organisation
  • Follows reasonable directions given by the organisation in relation to workplace health & safety
  • All appointments at BISA are subject to provision of a satisfactory “Disability Service” and “Child Safety” worker screening

Qualifications/Registrations/Experience

Essential

  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • Professional Registration with AHPRA
  • Home modifications/Equipment Prescription experience
  • Specialised assessment and report writing
  • A current driver’s license
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience specialising in neurology/brain injury or minimum 5 years’ experience in broad Occupational Therapy practice
  • Current (within the last 3 years) DCSI “Child related employment screening”

Desirable

  • Experience working with adults with Acquired Brain Injury
  • NDIS knowledge / experience
  • Experience supervising students and junior staff
