Supporting Carers and Families Affected by Brain Injury
Caring for a loved one with brain injury is an emotional, physical, and financial challenge. Unfortunately, families often don’t have access to the resources they need to support their own health and well-being while caring for someone with a disability. That’s where the BISA Foundation steps in to help.
Thanks so far to the generous support of the Lifetime Support Authority, we’ve been able to deliver our Be Well program, focusing on building the mental health and resilience of carers. This program is designed to support those who care for people with acquired brain injury (ABI) and provide essential resources to help them manage their caregiving responsibilities.
Addressing the Needs of Carers
Families and carers often feel overlooked when it comes to accessing funding for their own health and well-being. At the BISA Foundation, we’ve made it our mission to change this. Our focus is on delivering crucial support programs that help carers maintain their mental health, build resilience, and connect with others who understand their challenges.
The Be Well program has been an essential part of this effort, and we are determined to continue this important work. Our goal is not only to extend the Be Well program for another year but also to implement the findings from our carers’ survey to better address their needs.
Our 2025 Plans to Support Carers
With your support, we plan to expand our initiatives for carers in 2025. The following programs will be rolled out to help carers find the support and connection they need:
- Be Well Master Classes: We will offer two Master Classes per year for those who have completed the initial Be Well program, diving deeper into topics like resilience and mental health.
- Monthly Brain Injury Support Group: A dedicated support and education group for carers, providing a safe space to share experiences and access information on brain injury care.
- Online Support Group for Carers: We’ll create an online platform where carers can connect, share resources, and support one another no matter where they live.
- Social Events for Carers: At each Brain Injury SA hub, we will host three social events per year, providing carers with opportunities to connect in-person, build relationships, and share experiences.
Help Us Reach Our Goal to Support Carers
We are currently raising $45,000 to fund the development and delivery of these programs. These programs are vital for families and carers, who often feel isolated and unsupported. With your help, we can continue to provide life-changing support and resources to those who care for people with brain injury.
